WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
The illustrations are done--now what?
Page Formating and Text Insertion--that's what!
There are many types of artists--painters, illustrators, graphic artists--to name a few. The next step in the process concerns graphic designers.
For your purposes, I "painted" a group of "illustrations". Once the illustrations are done, you then send the illustrations to a graphic artist to format the illustrations according to the dimensions of the printed final book. The printing company you use will give you options for the sizes of the book's pages.
**THESE DIMENSIONS ARE SOMETHING YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE THE ILLUSTRATIONS ARE BEGUN.
The reason is because cropping--or cutting off parts of the illustrations--will happen in order to fit the illustrations into the printing dimensions. Or, you will have bands of black or white along the edges of the page to make up the difference--giving your book a matted or framed appearance on either the top and bottom or the sides. The last option--and the most expensive is you have the artist fill in the empty space on the illustrations to match the printing dimensions. Very difficult--sometimes impossible depending on the paper, canvas, etc unless the illustrator understands digital art.
OPTIONS FOR INSERTING TEXT AND PRINT FORMATION
1. You can hire a designer, one who knows children's books, to get the book ready for printing (formatted) with the text on the pages.
2. You can do it yourself using Photoshop.
3. I can format it for you and design the text boxes inside the artwork that I have created knowing where the empty spaces are and where the eye of the reader should be led.
